Lon Chaney stars in ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ (1923) the original screen adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel about a deformed bellringer in medieval Paris. A moving and timeless drama filled with classic scenes and capped with a thrilling climax! Chaney’s performance as Quasimodo set new standards in cinematic make-up, and remains riveting today.
Accompanist and composer Jeff Rapsis specializes in creating live improvised musical scores for movies made during the silent film era. Based in New Hampshire, he performs at about 130 screenings each year at venues ranging from the Harvard Film Archive in Cambridge, Mass. to the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum in Fremont, Calif. He is a regular accompanist at the Somerville (Mass.) Theatre, the Kansas Silent Film Festival, the Cleveland Cinematheque, and the Revue Cinema in Toronto, Canada. His “Kilimanjaro Suite” was premiered by the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017. He is a co-founder and Associate Publisher of HippoPress, a weekly newspaper covering arts and culture.
