The Samaritans is a non-profit, 501(c)3 charitable organization, founded in 1981 by a local family to help reduce the incidence and impact of suicide. Samaritan volunteers answer confidential, anonymous crisis hotlines for people that are lonely, isolated, depressed or suicidal. They offer a weekly, confidential support group, “A Safe Place,” to those who’ve lost a friend or loved one to suicide; and provide educational trainings and programs for students, employers, community organizations. They also offer meaningful volunteer and internship opportunities and never charge for any of their services or programs. They are supported in part, by the Monadnock United Way.
